That's not as strange as it seems. For example, one of the reasosn
often cited for the French Revolution is that life had gotten somewhat
better for non-aristocrats, and the bougeoisie, all the shop-keepers
and tradesmen, were enough past survival issues to actually think
abuot what would make the place better.
