Definitely go for the acid wash. I watched the entire process on mine, and
once you see what it does it makes perfect sense. Over time your cooling
fins get clogged with really fine dust and clippings from lawnmowing, etc,
so there's no place for the air to circulate. You can't just get in there
with a brush and a hose, because the fins are so fine that it will crush
them (don't even touch them!), flattening them down and again ruining their
effectiveness.

The acid wash is a slow chemical process that dissolves the gunk and lets a
gentle stream of water gently flush it off. Looks almost new when it's
done, and you'll probably notice that your compressor comes on less often
because it operates more efficiently.

He also elevated our unit using cinder blocks so the ground-level blast of
clippings from lawnmowers wouldn't clog the bottom half. That also allowed
air flow from under the unit to increase air flow and efficiency.

Rob really knows his stuff, and he's honest and reasonably priced.
