Also.. if you are going from a old 9 or 10 sear, it may also probably
require new copper lines and coils. Something else they did not tell you...

Adam - just a note to tell you your recommendation was spot on! Thank
you so much!!!!

Before you chimed in (I'd been making calls like crazy) - I had a
quote from the original contractor the warranty people had sent (they
suck, terrible, terrible attitude. Service guy was very nice, but the
people at the office just stink.),

and another call from a guy in the area that another friend had
recommended (he was nice, but definitely trying to make a buck) ...
and when I finally spoke to Rob this morning, he filled me in on
several different things that the first two people never even
mentioned.

I can't stand that. I really can't stand contractors that either leave
stuff out or assume you have no investigative skills whatsoever and
prey upon your naivete to get as much out of you as possible. I know I
know - business and whatever. But still. There needs to be more
honorable people like Rob.

I haven't met him, might not ever as we do this long distance, but I
like him already, Adam. He told me that he can replace the compressor
and make it compatible with what I already have inside, and acid wash
the existing outside unit and make sure it's all clean since the two
big internal parts (capacitor and electrical contact thingie) have
already been replaced.

Otherwise, with the new SEER 13 units, the inside coils would of had
to be replaced in order for the new SEER 13 condenser to run
efficiently/properly. A fact neither of the other two companies
decided to disclose.

Yes, the SEER 13 is more efficient for this section of the country -
but money, right now this instant, is an issue. As the upstairs unit
needs to be cleaned as well. <sigh>
