I wanted more violence. I was saddened. I thought that McCain's left cheek
might explode, but no go there either.

Didn't see much that would really sway positions one way or another. One of
the things that I thought reflected the two candidates well was the response
to Leher's question about how the bailout would effect their spending plans
as President (which is an excellent question, btw).

McCain had a nice forceful, straight forward answer. He said he'd support an
across the board spending freeze except for defense, veterans programs and a
couple entitlement programs. I don't happen to agree with his answer, but he
laid it out plainly and I'll give him credit for that, no real equivocating
there.

Obama said that he has goals he wants to accomplish in his Presidency, like
energy independence, health care initiatives, etc. Then he gave examples of
places he felt programs could be cut and he said that across the board
freezes were inappropriate because different programs have different returns
on investment and then explained that they couldn't predict what the tax
receipts would look like post-bailout so you can't say at what rate you'd be
able to implement his vision for programs.

McCain offered a decisive, bold answer. Obama chose nuance with talk about
goals, options and uncertainties. I like Obama's nuanced approach. I think
it fits better with the times we find ourself in. I can see people liking
McCain's style though.

All in all, I'd say that the debate was okish. Not great, not horrid. On one
thing we can hopefully all agree though...watching Guliani after the debate,
man, that guy is a prick. What a douchenozzle.
