ummm... when I was in Chicago I stayed at two different hotels, one on the Miracle Mile and one on Lakeshore Drive at the edge of Hyde Park. The part of Hyde Park I saw (granted just a sliver) was light-years from the sort of grittiness that I hear permeated Southside Chicago. Could be wrong, but what I thnk is that this is what the reporter intended, but he misunderstood. For instance, to pick a place I know better, Capitol Hil in Washington DC is full of very gracious homes close in where Senators and Supreme Court employees live, but the eastern edges of it have public housing and open-air crack markets. So if there were a drive-by shooting at the fringes say it would be misleading to say that this was less than three miles from the home of say Sandra Day O'Connor. (Not that I know that she keeps a place there but let's say.)
