And what makes you think you are going to get a non-whacko
african-american running for president on the Republican ticket any
time soon? I suppose it will depend on how the coming purges in the
party shake out. Democrats did a surprisingly quick turn around
reorganizing after the 2004 Presidential debacle. Dean's 50-state
strategy didn't seem like an obvious winner when he proposed it and a
lot of people thought he was a loon because of it. Run for head of the
DNC against the traditional DLC folks from the Clinton days? Insane.
But he helped pull off a rather amazing turn around starting with the
2006 midterm elections.

Republicans are going to have to do some serious house cleaning after
this election and decide on their strategy for regaining ground. The
2010 midterm elections map doesn't look good for them, especially in
the Senate. And they'll probably have to help from an implosion by a
Democrat-lead Congress and Presidency. Which is certainly not out of
the question.

Still, I don't know that I see much in the way of up and coming
African Americans on the Republican farm team. They've got Bobby
Jindal as the lead minority candidate in the party. Beyond him the
pickings look pretty slim from here. But if there is a reorganization
in the party and they realize that they can't win national elections
with just the religious base anymore, perhaps we'll see a more
compassionate and fiscal-oriented party come out of it that can
recruit better. Still, it seems like it will be quite a
reorganization.
