California could actually survive quite nicely as a separate country. We have oil, a huge supply of food, technology, and lots of smart people who know how to make it work. Manufacturing includes clothes, computers, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and a wide variety of other products. The nation's newest automotive manufacturing plant is just up the street from my house.
