I don't think she seeks public approval. Her and Brad's lives are so controversial, I actually don't think either one of them cares a rat's ass about what we the public think.
I *THINK* (IMO) Angelina and Brad are color-blind, and could care less where a child comes from, only that it needs a home. Something in the kids they adopted touched a part of their lives, enough to want to make the kids a part of their heart. THAT's what I respect. I personally could care less where that child came from, what ethnicity it was or even what religion. Madonna has always been inter-racial. Her adopting a non-caucasion is just part of her makeup. I don't think it was a "I'll get credit for it" move at all. Sarah Silverman just made a joke that wasn't exactly spot on humorous.
