You were making a good point until the "change" comment. That's one of those stupid things to debate because it's subject, fuzzy, ill defined, and thus unmeasurable and so not relevant to discuss. But let's discuss your point, a good one, that Obama may have done something different with the inauguration party other than he's doing. You're right, maybe. The principle I believe he's working under is national unity and he's using symbols to declare it. His experience and skill as a community organizer has been showing up all over the place and it's definitely showing up here: 1.) Unite people and create participation and "a cause" with an event(s): a great speech, a party, a gathering, et al 2.) Get them to agree on the big principles, even if they may disagree on the positions. 3.) Turn their unification on principle, and accountability as a participant, into measurable effective action. Obama has used this last week in an attempt to unite all US citizens around principles, get them involved in those principles by incorporating their ideas, and will then hold them accountable to deliver. You see this in his meetings with conservative legislators and columnists as well as his own teams. So could he have saved a few bucks by not holding the party? Sure. But under his operating model the cost would be inclusion which would cause a loss of momentum and an inefficient or untenable execution. The opportunity cost far outweigh the party cost. In other words, Obama sees a large festive inauguration party as a key step for executive effectiveness. Personally I agree. It's time we stop seeing government as something that's done to us and start seeing it as something we do. If a party helps to get people invovled and working as an effective team, then I'm all for it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:285323 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
