I'll segue into the a/c crash for a moment. Likely the pilot and co-pilot are heroes for their supreme calm under pressure and executing a perfect landing. BUT. The NTSB will be asking them if the flock was avoidable in the first place. Could this accident have been prevented with better procedure and/or skill by the pilot(s)? Typically on takeoff the flying pilot is watching the controls (airspeed, altitude, etc) and the other pilot if manning radios. Then they're nose up 12-15 degrees. And ATC can't really see a flock unless it pretty big. But could the pilots have seen the birds? Was the Captain too focused on the gauges? Could he have taken evasive action? Only airline Flight Ops will find out but I'd guess there's at least a 50-50 chance of a procedural change here. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:285327 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
