I think they've all been phenomenal successes and the reason is
simple: human beings cannot be trusted to act in their own economic
best interest.

Thus to ensure happiness for all, we need to force people to do the
right thing and one of those things is saving for retirement. If the
government doesn't make them, they won't, and then one way or another
people like me who do save will end up paying for them anyway.

Looks what's happening right now in the banking world: government
allowed "investors" to take ridiculously huge risks with insanely
crazy amounts of leverage and now those of us who didn't do that have
to bail them out.

People who stupidly bought houses will probably get bailed out. By me.

So what's the lesson? The majority of people are too dumb to
competently manage their own money.

The real question is what is the best, and fairest, way to keep an
economy going and keep these simpletons decomposing on my city
sidewalks?

The answer is government management and regulation.

I wish it weren't so, but there ain't no education in the second kick
of the mule.
