I'm really disappointed in the website bill posting thing. I've been following it and I can't for the life of me understand why he didn't post the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The SCHIP law I could maybe make a case for since it is trying to get kids insured right away but that is still a bit weak in my opinion. Fair Pay Act though? No way..it should have been posted and I want to know why his supposed process wasn't followed.
As for the earmarks and spending...there is 2% that Republicans have defined as "pork" which we've talked about here but I'm not aware of any anonymous earmarks in the bill. Could you point me in the right direction on that one? And Daschle...he should have quit because of the tax issue. And he did. But what his consulting activities weren't lobbying in the slightest. I've worked as a consultant before and that is exactly what he was doing. Firms in the healthcare arena wanted to know how things got done in DC and had questions about the players, what the various agendas were, how bills could be crafted, etc. Those are all issues that Daschle knows quite a bit about and so he talked to them as a consultant. He never (to my knowledge) went out and lobbied lawmakers on their behalf. That's the difference between a lobbyist and a consultant. A consultant advises you and answers your questions. A lobbyist goes in and gets access and makes your case with legislators on your behalf. Two totally different jobs and constituencies. Judah On Fri, Feb 6, 2009 at 8:29 AM, C.
