I'm not selecting facts. According to the analyses I have seen and from
public statements by people like Sen. Inhofe, most of the spending, while
not pork, is also not going to get into the economy in the next year. Part
of the reason the TARP went the way it did was because that was what they
could accomplish in a short time span. If most of this money isn't going
into the economy anytime soon, why put it in the bill? I would prefer to see
Congress pass a bill with immediate relief and signal that they will
re-visit the economy every quarter or six months and pass additional
spending if necessary. Or, if they want to put it all in one bill, at least
put in some checks where Congress or the President can go back later and
dial down the spending. This rush to allocate a trillion dollars in
long-term spending is non-sensical.
