My dead body wasn't that gruesome. An older man hadn't been seen in a number
of days and the police were called in. They kicked in the door and the man
had died a few days earlier in his bedroom alone.

We had to stay there until the coroner took his body and until his daughter
arrived from Palm Springs (because of the kicked in door). (A 2 hour drive
to LA during good times). When she got there, the only thing she wanted to
know was if we had found his checkbook. I found it very sad that her father
had died and her first words were not how, but "where's his money".

We had to go through the apartment a bit to find his phone book to call her.
But no, never saw any checkbook.

I did discover though that a large amount of coffee dumped in a saucepan
with a small amount of water on a stovetop helps with the gross smell.

Yeah - the officer I rode with told me about one or two places I might
want to go for a "more adventurous" ride-along. I didn't wear a
bullet proof vest for my ride, but she said in those areas I would be
supplied with one. I was riding in my local neighborhood, which
(thankfully) doesn't require a bullet proof vest to drive around in.
