Yes, my perception plays a part because I'm filtering all of this information through a 'western' mentality that says that beating a wife is wrong. That says that beheading is wrong. My perception also says that in America, these things are not accepted or should not be. Someone comes here and they have to follow our laws and norms. In America, American culture supersedes others on certain issues. We're still a work in progress ourselves but I think we're a bit further ahead than some other cultures/religions when it comes to things like women's rights.
