Just got this from my mother-in-law in the Upper Penninsula of
Michigan ("yoo-pers"):

"We had friends from California come look at houses here. They may
move here at the end of May. We looked at foreclosers. One home
valued at $269,000. The bank was starting it's sale around $179,000.
Probably will take less just to get rid of it. Beautiful with 2 story
windows on one side of the house and a loft overlooking the 1st floor
on land of 7 acres."

The UP is a place where, during the housing boom, 1950s houses w/ 1500
sq ft were going for $20,000 - during the boom! - and, yeah, that's
for the house AND land.

So a $270,000 there would be brand new on a private, but city
maintained road and feature packed.

Probably built by "FIBs" (f'n Illinois basterds <- QT shoutout) who
wanted a driveable vacation home with a little private
snowmobile/ski/ATV/dirt bike room.

Unless it has a private lake.
