Exactly, and more to the point, they would not ruin us. They would force us to do one of two things: cut spending dramatically, or devalue the dollar. Either one would be very damaging for us, but devastating for them.
This is exactly the problem the Russians, Venezuelans, and Iranians are facing today. They (along with others, perhaps) pushed oil as high as possible to destabilize our economy, and they ended up damaging their own economies far more than ours.
