Well, that's why the silly formula I posted was:

calories*(fat+(transfat^2)) = tax $$

Calories alone aren't bad till you combine that with a fatty food,
particularly transfatty.  I am sure you could add in a ton of other
factors, but I don't know many athletes who consume high calorie foods
that are also exceptionally high in fat (relative to a big mac, for
example), especially trans fat.

IMHO, BMI shouldn't be considered.
