Zillow shows Rancho Cordova average house at 201,00 which is slightly below the national average. It shows Albuquerque at 184,000 so Rancho Cordova would be slightly more. If you didn't mind a commute you could get closer to Sac and have more culture and better terrain, but Rancho Cordova isn't bad.
BTW, I'm in Alameda full time now, no longer residing in San Jose, but you're still welcome to the guest room if you come back out this way. Salaries in California are usually higher than the rest of country regardless of which part of Cali.
