I did read what you said, which is why I responded the way I did. You
seemed to be saying, "well the left is hypocritical too". And I agree,
it can be. But my point was that there are instances of a behavior on
each side does not mean that the total or even preponderance of the
behavior is equal on both sides. That's the false equivocation which
is what I was describing.

Saying, "doesn't hold a monopoly" is an easy way to make people think
"oh, they both do it so they must be equally guilty" which I think is
patently false.

And as for the targeting of "liberal" groups, that wasn't what the
2001 report was about. That was about the ALF and ELF and they
definitely deserve to be watched. They threaten and carry out violent
acts. Mostly property crimes but they certainly threaten people as
well. I heartily endorse the monitoring of left-wing hate groups just
like I do right-wing ones.

Violent, extremist groups should be paid attention to regardless of
political leanings.
