The question is moot because you don't KNOW the person KNOWS; that's
why you're torturing them.

But let's see if we can find a nexus of agreement, so how about this?

We would agree that, say, soldiers and police and Secret Service are volunteers.

And we would agree that they volunteered to put their life on the line
in defense of citizens (or the President).

So how about this?

Just as a Secret Service person will take a bullet to save the
President, let's have the torturer make the same call: if he truly
believes that the information he'll get will save lives, then he'll be
executed for violation of law.

In other words, the American must be so morally certain of his actions
that he's willing to die.

That way we don't violate our ethics and principles and the great
information you claim torture will provide will be made available.
