who is the registrar? I am really wondering if it is possible they went out of business, which is unlikely if they are GoDaddy (I guess). To answer your actual question, if you really can't reach them then I believe that network solutions has a department that works on this kind of thing, tho they may expect you to register with them after they get it sorted out.
They were able to help me get prunebelly.org squared away after the guy it was registered to died unexpectedly.
