I said "maybe what will help", not "this is what will work". I know that there's a limit to merit and perseverance. I could have gone to some high level technical colleges (maybe even MIT) based on my scores on some tests coming out of high school but I couldn't afford it and in the end I went to community college. Maybe if I persevered more I could have gotten a grant, loan, or whatever but I didn't want to burden my parents with such a thing (real colleges cost BIG bucks). So one door closed and I looked for other doors. But my culture is one where learning is paramount. Strong? Sexy? Rich? Nice, but not the focus of life. But in some parts of the black community, to quote Chris Rock, "ignant" is the focus, not learning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5J9127IASo I'm going to say this flat out - This is exactly what MUST be changed, affirmative action or not.
community support->merit and perseverance->cultural focus on good and away from bad->looks like a trend in my thinking ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Want to reach the ColdFusion community with something they want?
