historically in the US, bear claws were synonymous with donuts, usually deep
fried dough, but in stick format, not round with a hole, nor big and flat.

basically, bear claw = Dunkin Donuts Cruller

Now, they are very specific things with almonds and raisins and sometimes
dates, but that is a fairly recent change to the recipe.
