Good point. I left out a common refrain that goes along with those
other points about "diversity". As part of the liberal/forward
thinking package we like to think of ourselves as being very diverse.
Which is true in some senses but very untrue when it comes to racial
diversity. Consequently many people consider it a thin veneer of
tolerance and understanding over a base that is either unchallenged
when it comes to disparate experiences/viewpoints or outright hostile
(see white power groups).

Unspoken knowledge, debate and assumptions about local issues that I
should remember other people aren't clued in to :)
