Joseph Campbell expressed some pretty provocative reasoning about some of these questions. The talk of dead religions reminds me of things like "South Park"'s Super Best Friends for some reason. Like, you *could* say that "through Christ" means "loving one another", and anyone who loves everyone is thus "through Christ". The only reason you couldn't, is, well, reason (no, not the super-weapon Reason from "Snow Crash"). Yea, interpretation is key. Interpretation can lead to World Peace, as well as Big-endians and Little-endians. Could be that it's all relative, and everything is already "perfect". Maybe that's why even haters ain't excluded from my "religion". Heh- it is like a black hole. There's no escape from denstar's religion. You are all now baptized, forever, in every direction.
