OK I was going to write this long explanation of how FLA and BAMA's schedule was not weak based on CBS SoS rankings except that the schedule didn't pass the eye test. CBS, is of course, the broadcaster of SEC games. So I went to Jeff Sagarin's website to see that BAMA and FLA have a awful SoS of 51 and 41. Oregon is 3 and Oregon St is 24. I guess we have to remember that FLA and BAMA's SoS rankings will go up once they play each other but that is after the fact since a win guarantees an invite to the NC game.
My biggest gripe with the SEC is the weather. I'd like to see FLA come into the Horseshoe in late nov and see how they do. They get to build teams that fit the bowls. OSU has to build teams to take a pounding while playing in the cold against Wis. OSU used to have to worry about UMush too but that games has now turned into a JV scrimmage. To be fair, it is important to bring up that Auburn (an SEC elite) was not invited to the National Title game because of their weak schedule when they went undefeated. Can't remember if the BCS system was in place then but history is pretty clear about this: strength of schedule means something if several teams go undefeated. I would think if Oregon or USC went undefeated they would probably would get the invite over Tex. Oregon St and Standford would probably have gotten snubbed due to their preseason rankings if TEX and FLA/BAMA went undefeated. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Want to reach the ColdFusion community with something they want?
