Well I asked my wife who is NOT an accountant but knows a bit about this stuff and she said: (1.) She's pretty sure you're status is what it is on the last day of the year. In other words, you're considered single for 2009 (if she's right). (2.) As for owing money you might or might not since the IRS is just ball parking their deduction, and she says you can easily check by trying-for-free turbo tax online and just not filing. (3.)
