This is all nice and good but the only think that's going to make Apple change their business model is a competitor like Google stealing or threatening significant amount of market share. So far Droid phones have a minor threatening factor, but aren't really doing too much real damage. Nothing else even comes close to stealing market share. Till then the best way to avoid Apple's DRM is not to buy an Apple product (which also serves to threaten said market share). You can petition till you are blue in the face.
