Those large offshore quakes happen more frequently than the on-shore ones do. The last one, a 6.5, caused about 40 million in damages and 1 serious injury. No damage or injuries reported with the one today which was a 5.9. I didn't feel either of them, but sometimes a minor 2.0 will wake me if it's close.
