You are mistaking Communism/Fascism and Socialism, Sam. And you aren't
even characterizing Marx correctly anyway. Marx was critiquing feudal
economies where a ruling aristocracy controlled the flow of all capita
and means of production, so that the people doing the producing
(mostly agricultural back then) did not own those means of production
(their farms) and instead lived off of whatever sops were thrown their
way.  That system is just what you were describing...everyone in an
area gets controlled by one leader (or a family of them) and that
leader decides who gets what. Marx was against that.

And Socialism at 21st century bares little relation to the words of
Das Kapital, just like 21st century Capitalism bears little
resemblance to The Wealth of Nations. And yes, I've read both.
