+ a million.

1. Have your parents build a Facebook and Twitter following.... ASAP. Like
yesterday.

2. And yeah, I'm sorry - but this design really doesn't do much for me. I
don't know what I'm looking at. There's no menu ... no navigation ...

In the course of a week I look at hundreds of sites and do research on
usability, "likability", where the "hot" zones are and what people like and
what people don't like, and I read boring crap like how many seconds you
have to keep someone interested in a site, etc blah blah... your eyes would
glaze over.

This site would keep my attention for about 5 seconds, and that's not too
good...
I'd be like: ok next!!!!! quickly. I think my brain just exploded.

a) You dont have to do much. Move the logo over to the left. Increase the
width to 900 or 960. Add a menu bar with some pertinent navigational
elements.

b) Move the search to the upper right hand column.

c) No need to change any colors - just move some stuff around. It'll make a
WORLD of difference

3. Start promoting "the product of the month" ...

4. Where's the "sign up for our newsletter and discount" form?

5. An ecommerce site is only as good as it's products and it's LIST!!! Gotta
build a list. ASAP. Like yesterday.

6. Have a contest ... give away a piece of jewelry based on user submission
of a cat or something. It doesnt MATTER what it is .. just require an email
for submission of the photo. Gather them for a month. Pick a winner. It
doesnt matter how. (just don't promote it on Facebook blantantly --- they
have separate rules about that.)

***** This is a GREAT opportunity to really push some awesome traffic into
your parent's laps. I can see the possibilities and they are endless ... it
just needs a little push. Like I can see you with one leg over the fence,
ready to drop into the endless green pastures ... you just need a teeny
shove ...
