And where have I claimed that the "right" is, as a whole, preaching hate, suspicion, fear and violence? I said that many individuals and groups, some prominent and some not, are contributing and enabling this. I stand by that. I've also said that there are individuals, groups and media on the left doing the same. I've seen car dealerships torched, I've seen the homes of people I know vandalized by animal rights activists. I'm not discounting (as Sam seems to believe) the violence coming from left wing groups. The difference is largely in degree, not in kind. This thread devolvement started because Cam said that most suicide bombers go through years and years of religious indoctrination and are promised a thousand virgins in the afterlife (clearly labeling the problem as being primarily Muslim) but that some people are just nuts. My point was, and is, that there is plenty of brainwashing going on in the US. It isn't all life long religious indoctrination. It comes from websites, it comes from television, it comes from, yes, churches too. We have too much incitement to fear, hatred and violence in the US and it needs to stop. We can't keep thinking of it as something that is really just a problem for those Islamic countries and that when something happens with white dudes in the US, it is just an isolated case of some nutjob. These guys don't happen in a vacuum and it is both stupid and perilous to think so.
