Welecome the the Gold Country.  If you think the drive up Highway 49 to 
Grass Valley is nice you should try continuing on up to Sierraville or 
points beyond.  See what real country mountains can get up to.  You are 
still in the foothills :-)

I suspect you may be experiencing the difference between small town 
America and big city America.  That divide can seem like two separate 
countries even to us Americans.
