I think the major problems between people are at what level these social
services should be provided.

I personally think of those issues you list interstates are the only things
that the federal gov't has any part in.

Now state and local gov't.......

Most people running for office are not really that far apart politically.

They all believe in schools, fire departments, roads, and police.

Most differences are on not-too-important-to-me items.

And there are enough centrists (or obstructionists) to not allow the really
radical folk too much leeway.

Part of my respect of an individual is in the elected official's integrity
to do what they were elected for, which is represent their constituency
amongst the body politic.
