Of course I wrote that. It is true and it was a counterbalance point
to the one written by Jerry. This is a complex issue and there is
blame to go around on all sides. You can't reasonably say, in my
opinion, that any one side or action is the root cause.

I can't see any logic by which this is true. America would still have
a strong need of comprehensive immigration reform even if the laws on
the books were all enforced to the letter. The problem is large and
complex. It will not be solved by simple-minded, punitive actions.
There needs to be enforcement of laws and border protection, no doubt.
Those are part of an overall solution. But the overall solution needs
to also address the reasons why so many people have come here, why
they have jobs here, how our communities deal with an influx of
immigrants and how we are going to move to a more sane system that
provides for the needs of our country.

That wasn't me, btw. That was Jerry commenting on the vitriol coming
from Eric. I agreed with Jerry on that and would also extend the
admonition to Brian. Jerry and I have, thus far, been having a very
civil discussion.
