Whoa now, where are you getting that???? I've heard several reasons for the
attack, most of them strategically based around Japan's overall goal of a
domination of the south Pacific. I'd never heard this angle of "they are
going to join in anyway, might as well attack them first".

Really?!?!?!?! Man...you are stumping me today, and I've read a lot about
WW2. Is this really true???  If the Japanese diplomat didn't know about it,
how come he promptly cut off communication with the US right before the
attack???
