Wasn't that called a PDA? Hehehe I think the straight PDA's went the way of the dodo bird when they successfully merged the pda and the phone.
If you are looking for something like a smartphone, I would assume a netbook would be to large. You may just have to bite the bullet. I would highly recommend the Android based phones...particularly the Droid. You will definitely be paying for more, but I don't know of any of the cell companies that offer a device without a phone that has data access offhand. I know the iPod Touch and maybe some of the other ipods (eww) allow data access, but I am not sure how those work. My wife has an HP Mini, and I'm not sure that is a good form factor for the uses I am imagining. What type of data plans are out there that don't require a lot of money per month for more data then I am likely use. Preferably contract free. I already have wi-fi in many places I would be either from my DSL provider and|or other open/free wi-fi hot spots. So I suspect I would not need a lot of coverage beyond that, if any, would I? Are any of you non-phone smart phone users out there?
