No, they're still around. They're just harder than snot to find. We use them 
for a couple programs to help teachers track certain types of assessment 
scores. They're hard enough to find now that the vendor for one of those 
programs started making their own and selling them preinstalled, but they're 
not extinct yet. 

Frankly I'd still rather carry a PDA and a phone seperately. That way if I'm 
feeling antisocial I can leave the phone at home and still have my PDA with me.
