Of course, I try to consider the issues based on their merits. > "However, I still think that, while not necessarily a racist, he is very > very wrong. Perhaps he was too naive to flat out lie but no, it had nothing to do with re-framing. He believes that private businesses have the right to discriminate in hiring practices and customers that they serve. He simply said so and there is no "good" way to frame that opinion, only dishonest ways. > For example, does, say a web application developer, have the right to turn > down business from the Black Panthers, La Raza, MS 13, the KKK, the > Reconquista movement, or NAMBLA? The law fundamentally recognizes a distinction between ideas you hold and things you are. You choose to be a bigot or a liberal or a member of the Rotary Club or all three. You do not choose to be black or a man (in most instances) and for historic reasons and their pervasiveness in society, we've also chosen to include religion. > I think Paul wants people like David Duke, Jesse Jackson, Louis > Farrakhan, Jeremiah > Wright, Al Sharpton, and Michelle Obama to have the right to be racist. I don't think there is any pigeon-holing to be done but then again, I don't think it is a terribly complex issue. You can sit on your porch, drink beer with your friends and spit vitriol on every nigger-loving papist homo in Congress and I'll defend your right to do so. You don't get to be a business that offers up goods and services for sale to all comers expect for the spics and jews though. That's why the Civil Rights Act was right and Rand Paul is wrong.
