I blame Congress and lobby groups. If our regulations were as tight as every other nation that does offshore drilling the spill would have been smaller by several orders of magnitude, maybe even small enough to be a non-issue, but thanks to our lobby groups and their campaign contributions *cough*bribes*cough* the automatic shutoff valve that would have been required by law anywhere else wasn't there. THAT ticks me off. An enviromental disaster to dwarf any other oil spill we've ever seen is bad enough, but knowing that the reason it happened is because of a greedy corporation and corrupt politicians really irks me.
