Israel said that it did not fire first. It was only after its soldiers were surrounded and feared for their lives that they opened fire, purely in self defence. And...for those with short memories...the Israelis shooting first is consistent with the broadcasts which were heard from the vessels before their signals were jammed during the Israeli attacks, and what has been said by several witnesses (including Human ones from 'Developed' countries).
