Exactly...I heard that they were using flash bang grenades and firing
(potentially warning shot) as they were coming down.  Even warning shots
could have been misconstrued as firing into the crowd in the chaos.  Not
exactly a good way to board peacefully and get cooperation from the crew and
passengers who may already be hostile against you.  Someone left their
thinking cap at home when they planned this one...or a possible show of
force on the Israeli side intended to send a message just backfired like a
howitzer with a cement filled barrel.

Sorry, I suppose I have to also add the significance of the Israeli's
opening fire before boarding:

Israel said that it did not fire first. It was only after its soldiers were
surrounded and feared for their lives that they opened fire, purely in self
defence.

And...for those with short memories...the Israelis shooting first is
consistent with the broadcasts which were heard from the vessels before
their signals were jammed during the Israeli attacks, and what has been said
by several witnesses (including Human ones from 'Developed' countries).
