I think you may be mis-remembering the passage to which you are referring:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" No mention of 'God' there . On a side note, as far as I am concerned, my 'creator' was actually my mom and dad, not God.
