The US was supposed to get its ass kicked every which way till Sunday in this game.
That first goal in the first 4 minutes was supposed to be a sign of things for the rest of the match. England was probably hoping to put at least 4 on the US. England showed they definitely are not in the running for Worldcup final stage this year. The US showed that they can play; their keeper has sure hands and knows how to play, and the rest of their team can run on and off the ball. Donovan has some incredible pace and that's definitely something to look out for. With some more experience all those shots that they tried and which failed may have been on target and caused serious problems. i.e. they are not a pushover side.
