Well keeping true to form the Slovenia v Algeria match was a bit unexpected. I was wrong again, but at least I was closer this time. I had it ending in a one all draw. I had expected the first few games to be really high scoring due to the ball that all the keepers were complaining about. I expected it to lead to more goal keeper errors and hence more goals. Then as they got used to it the score lines to get smaller. I was way off.
What the hell was Ghezzal thinking sticking his arm out like that? It's a bad enough move to make when you aren't carrying a yellow already, but when you've already been carded it's selfish and stupid. And the goal that did go in was just strange. I don't see how the keeper felt it was going to bounce where it did. He was a good foot off reading that bounce. This is actually the type of error I was expecting throughout the first matches as the ball is reportedly "wobbly." However after viewing the replay over and over I don't see the balls flight as anything but straight and true. So who knows. I feel really bad for Algeria as I feel like they were bossing the game a bit. Overall some brilliant football though. Both squads showed excellent control. Looking forward to Serbia v Ghana next. I've got Ghana taking it two goals to one.
