You should read them. The LOTR series is great fun, though the first
book drags a bit at the start. As for Atlas Shrugged, well, didn't
think it was a terribly good book, but I think it is important to read
it because other people will be using it as a cultural touchstone, so
it is good to understand what helped shape their thoughts. Like I've
read most of the Bible, a couple of times, not because I'm a Christian
but because there are a lot of Christians out there in our country and
it seems like I ought to try and understand them a bit.
