My best quitting story is when I left my PhD program.

A bit of background, I was preparing for my dissertation defense and
talking with my advisory committee. I had just come back after a
year's leave of absence. So as part of my preparation I talked with
all my advisors about areas I ought to concentrate on etc. With all
but one it went very well. With that prof, he told me quite bluntly
that he would do everything he could to fail me.

Well after I picked up my jaw off the floor and left, I decided that I
didn't need the academic BS anymore. So when it came for my defense,
immediately before I dropped off my resignation letters in each of my
committee members mailboxes. Then when the defense started, I was
asked if there was anything I'd like to say starting off. Yes, I
replied, you can all go f*ck yourselves.

I turned around and walked out.
