There is also a Kindle App for the iPhone and iPad.  So really I think
the device is one question you can leave open as long as you are using
the Kindle store to buy stuff.  Buy the Kindle device for now if you
want, but that doesn't close the door to iPad if the price comes down
in the future (which it almost certainly will).  It also leaves the
door open to other non Apple devices we haven't even seen yet.

I have no idea if the books you need will be available there, but it
will sync your purchases across a few devices, including where you
last left off when reading.
