Entire plot line spoiler ... ....................... ....................... ....................... ....................... ....................... The trade federation got screwed by palpatine. he was just using them to create the conflict on naboo so he could be elected chancellor. after he was elected, he didn't care about them and left them hanging to answer for all the crap that he started .. they were patsies. Darth Maul got killed, so Palpatine got a new apprentice .. a former Jedi named Dooku. Dooku approached the trade federation, as well as other seperatist guilds and told them he could help them get revenge on, and or get rid of the sith lord that was in control of the republic. Remember, the sepratists were sepratists because they didn't like how the republic was functioning. the trade federation was also pissed about being screwed over. So, some of the sepratists, including the trade federation, were eager to join up with dooku and overthrow the sith lord/republic. Now, the catch is that Dooku was really working for palpatine. palpatine was interested in taking over the galaxy. So, palpatine had dooku band the sepratist armies together so that they would pose a threat to the republic. that way, the senate would give palpatine emergency powers and control of a huge army of clones that palpatine himself had placed an order for, around the time of his rise to role of chancelor, under the name of a Jedi council member that died before papatine was "promoted". so, at the end of Episode II, palpatine has total emergency control and a huge army at his command. Once he gained that power, his army would ensure that no one could strip him of it. Palpatine dissolves the senate becomes Emporer, and "The Empire" is born, the clone army becomes the Storm Troopers, Anikan becomes Vader, the Jedi are wiped out, and we move to Episode IV The sepratists are patsies of Palpatine and the trade federation gets screwed a second time over.
